May 05, 2009 Announcing a New IVR Option - Same or SimilarOn May 11, 2009, NHIC, Corp. DME MAC Jurisdiction A will be implementing a new "Same or Similar" option on our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) System. This enhancement will enable suppliers to check for same or similar equipment without having to input each HCPCS code separately. Suppliers will be able to say one HCPCS code and the IVR will check for any codes that may be considered "same or similar". It will also provide certain details such as initial date, recertification and/or revision dates, length of need, and certifying supplier contact information.The same/similar option will only provide information on base codes, not related accessories or drugs. For instance, if a beneficiary has a manual wheelchair (K0001) and legrests (K0195), the same/similar option will only provide equipment that is same/similar for the K0001. No information will be given on the K0195. The Certificate of Medical Necessity option will still be available which can give accessories and/or drugs related to a base code.Suppliers are encouraged to continue working with their beneficiaries to confirm if prior equipment has been utilized.The DME MAC A IVR User Guide and related documentation will be updated on our Web site soon.
