Surgical Dressings - Antimicrobial Impregnated Gauze The Jurisdiction B DME MAC has performed a number of probe medical reviews on surgical dressing claims. One recurring problem is the use of antimicrobial impregnated gauze pads or roll gauze (e.g., Curity/Excilon/Kerlix/Telfa AMD) (A6222-A6224, A6266). The DME MAC has not identified literature or other strong clinical evidence that supports the advantage of using this type of dressing compared to using nonimpregnated gauze (A6402-A6404, A6446). Therefore, the impregnated gauze dressings have been paid comparable to nonimpregnated gauze dressings. |
