TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT OF PATIENT-OWNED EQUIPMENT: The Medicare allowance for temporary replacement for patient owned equipment being repaired (HCPCS K0462) is payable for one month only. Medicare coverage is limited to equipment that has been purchased by the beneficiary. Claims must include a narrative description of the equipment being used as a temporary replacement, the manufacturer, brand name, model name or number of the temporary replacement item, and a statement of why the replacement is needed. Claims without this information will be denied as not medically necessary.
