October 21, 2009 is Target Date for 60 Day Bid Window Opening
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a more robust timeline for the competitive bidding program today, which includes target dates for providers to register for User IDs and passwords as well as the opening of the 60 day bid window. The timeline includes the following:
DATE MILESTONE
8/17/2009* Registration for User IDs and Passwords begins.
9/30/2009 Last day for DMEPOS suppliers to get accredited.
10/2/2009 DMEPOS supplier surety bond deadline.
10/21/2009* CMS opens 60-day bid window for Round One Rebid.
11/21/2009* Covered Document Review Date for bidders to submit financial documents.
12/21/2009* 60-day bid window closes.
June 2010* CMS announces single payment amounts, begins contracting process.
September 2010* CMS announces contract suppliers, begins contract supplier education campaign.
Early Fall 2010* CMS begins supplier, referral agent, and beneficiary education campaign.
1/1/2011* Implementation of Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Program Round 1 Rebid contracts and prices.

The agency also provided information on planned bidder education campaigns. CMS's Competitive Bidding Implementation Contractor (CBIC) will focus on preparing providers for the registration period and then information specific to registered bidders and the bidding process. CBIC's website is www.dmecompetitivebid.com, and contains bidding rules, user guides, frequently asked questions, fact sheets, checklists, and other bidding information. CBIC also has a toll-free help desk which can be located at 1-877-577-5331. Providers can sign-up for e-mail updates on the bidding process on the CBIC website.
