| National Government Services, the Jurisdiction B DME MAC strives to deliver detailed education and information through several resources including Medicare University. Medicare University is an educational program designed to provide a broad variety of Medicare-related training. Now available through Medicare University is the Medicare Privacy and Disclosure of Beneficiary Information: What You Need to Know Computer Based Training (CBT) course. The Medicare Privacy overview has been designed to provide you with a general understanding of the requirements of the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). When you call or write a Medicare fee-for-service Provider Contact Center (PCC) to request beneficiary protected health information (PHI), the PCC staff, in order to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, will authenticate your identity. Prior to any PHI disclosure, the PCC staff will also authenticate certain beneficiary elements. This course is designed to help you understand what these authentication elements are as well as what pieces of information will be released after authentication by the PCC staff.
