| Proper HCPCS Coding of the Saunders Lumbar HomeTrac National Government Services, the Jurisdiction B Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractor (DME MAC) has identified that suppliers are incorrectly using HCPCS code E1399 when billing for the Saunders Lumbar HomeTrac. However, the proper HCPCS code to use when billing for this device is HCPCS code E0900, traction stand, freestanding pelvic traction. As with all DMEPOS items, suppliers must have a detailed written order which is signed and dated by the treating physician prior to claim submission. There must be information in the patient's medical record to support the medical necessity for this device. The order and copies of the medical records must be available to the DME MAC upon request. |
